The Sailor Moon Official Fan Club

Back when America only had the DiC adaptation of Sailor Moon's first season and half of its second season a short lived fan club existed for the series. The only way you learned about its existence was through buying existing Sailor Moon merchandise. This merchandise was mainly located in Canada and the northern states of the United States. On the packaging there would be a small advertisement to "Join the Official Sailor Moon Fan Club." Included was an address you could write to and a number you could call in order to join said club.

It began somewhere in 1995 based on the earliest merchandise its advertisements appeared on. How long it really lasted, is unknown, but it was likely a year at best. Reports of it being defunct by 1997 have been reported on the Internet. This was likely due to Sailor Moon being only a mild success at the time and the fact that the Fan Club was very expensive yet cheaply made.

Quite frankly, though I was a Sailor Moon fan back when I was a young elementary student, I had no idea this club even existed. I didn't even know that North American Sailor Moon merchandise even existed outside the two CDs released that featured the music played in the DiC adaptation until much later in life.

If you "missed out" on it like I did, it was no true loss, though. As mentioned above, the "official" merchandise they sent you was very cheaply made. I only know this because I actually have most of the stuff you were sent upon joining it. Basically only people who like to collect obscure items, care for nostalgia or are hell bent on collecting everything related to Sailor Moon would really be interested in the items. Sadly, I collect trading cards related to the series and the club had produced ten "Picture Cards." Oh, well. I wanted the cards so I got them.

If you are still curious about the finer details of this very obscure and ridiculously priced fan club, please read on.
