122 "Believe in Love! Ami, a Kind-Hearted Soldier"

In this episode Viluy sends her "Mosaic Buster" attack at Haruka and Michiru upon finding them in an off-limits area. She nearly paralyzes them with painful energy that is causing their bodies to try to break apart. Ami tells Viluy to stop. Haruka tells Ami not worry about them. She and Michiru display utter shock when Ami refuses. That, I find very interesting. Moon and company likely would have found it saddening how Haruka and Michiru see it as a dog eat dog world.

When Haruka and Michiru see the other soldiers in trouble and that Viluy's attention is away from them, they manage enough power to move and transform. Perhaps they were both simply waiting for an opening, but I think at least some of it was due to great concern for the others stirred up by Ami's determination to help them.

Later on when they are all safe and outside Mugen Gakuen, Haruka and Michiru confront Ami. Haruka starts with, "Ami Mizuno… if you didn't stop us back there… we could have defeated the Messiah of Silence." While saying those words, her voice is level and her face impassive. Michiru looks a bit regretful and a bit disappointed, however.

Ami winces. Haruka continues as before, "Your idealism has let the Messiah of Silence escape." She then pauses though and her face relaxes into a smile and Michiru's body relaxes and her face changes to a blank calm. Haruka says in a lighter tone, "But… that Idealism is what saved us… So, at least for today…" "We have to thank you." Michiru finishes with a gentle smile. The three of them laugh.

In all of that, I'd say Haruka and Michiru learned of a kindness they had not known for many years or that in war they came to believe only in survival of the fittest and being betrayed. That might have helped them open their minds a bit more to Sailor Moon and company's way of thinking, but only a bit.
