110 "Death of Uranus and Neptune!? Talismans Appear"

Uranus and Neptune perform one of their greatest of sacrifices in this episode. Before we get to that, however, there are more things to note. In the beginning of the episode, Michiru goes off into her own world of daydreams, when Haruka’s voice interrupts her.

"So unfair of you… to go off into your own world. Don’t leave me here…" is what she says.

Haruka’s face is calm and a light smile graces her lips while she says this, but often such indifferent appearances have been seen from both of them while their words or tone of voice display otherwise. It is true though. Without Michiru, Haruka would be completely alone and vice versa. This time it is of great importance to have another by your side during such a mission, however. That day they had premonitions. They would find a talisman that day… and have to commit the ultimate sacrifice: taking a life.

After Eudial contacts them through voice machine about knowing who has a talisman, they know it is likely true. Haruka solemnly says it is time, but looks out the window broodingly – something she had been doing for some time. Michiru watches her with a worried expression on her face.

With quiet frustration, disgust and reluctance upon her facial features, Haruka eyes her hands. In silence she thinks of how they are tainted now. Despite that, she continues to tell herself that no matter what methods she takes and what sacrifices she makes she will get the talismans. She repeats such to harden her will.

As her mind draws into such thoughts, her face hardens and a frown graces her lips. She is in internal pain and anguish. This time, it is Michiru who takes the other out of her thoughts. Haruka looks up at her concerned and somewhat surprised. Michiru eyes her with a sad, somewhat blank expression and gently takes her hand. Sitting down, their hands gently meet and soon clasp.

Haruka’s solemn thoughts are put on hold and she asks Michiru what is wrong. Michiru smiles softly with a knowing look and gently says Haruka’s name, telling her it is alright. The other eyes her shocked. Michiru comforts her saying, "I like your hands." Michiru lets her know she isn't alone.

With such a gloomy and important day, they treat Usagi cruelly by luring her out to the top of a building and steal away her brooch to keep her from interfering this time. Most seem to think they are being cruel just to be cruel, but their reasons make sense though. Every time they find a victim, Sailor Moon fights them for it. Should it be a talisman… as Sailor Moon she would ruin all their chances of preventing the Silence and gaining peace.

Thus, they steal away Usagi's power to transform and make a get away to face off with Eudial for the talisman. When they are there, they pause and talk. Neptune lightly touches Uranus's hand and makes sure Uranus stays true to their agreements on what tactics they will go to. From there on they would ignore each other's danger and will move on alone. Uranus wonders why Neptune brings that up… this gives hint that Neptune knows something.

After entering a trap, Uranus and Neptune destroy it and before realizing it, another trap is set. Neptune sees it heading for Uranus and saves her while taking the blow herself. Neptune… seemed to know she wouldn't be able to keep their promise to ignore each other when in danger come that time… and that something would likely happen to her because of it.

Uranus doesn't keep the promise either and runs to go after Neptune when the trap disappears with Neptune in it. Eudial speaks over an intercom, telling Uranus that Neptune is a holder of a talisman. Uranus runs to where Neptune is being held. She denies the thought of Neptune being a holder, considering it as impossible.

When she arrives, she finds Neptune across the vast room unconscious and trapped. Uranus's feelings of disbelief and fear are apparent, especially when the screen gives a close up on her eyes. Without thinking of their promise, she runs to save Neptune, only to fall into a trap of deadly bullets.

Eudial hasn't taken out Neptune's crystal, however. Instead, she wishes to take a different talisman first. Uranus is speechless when Eudial says the other owner is her. Uranus's heart is pure because of the sacrifices she made. She was a person who was trying to save the world even if it meant tainting herself.

Uranus doesn't believe in such though. Over the long time span of their mission, she had been self-loathing and certain she was exactly what others called her. She was "cruel, cold, uncaring and selfish." She was a "murderer" by what lengths she would go to. There was no way someone such as her could hold a talisman.

During this, Neptune regains consciousness and sees what is going on. She struggles through her bonds and screams out Uranus's name. She doesn't care for herself. She doesn't care for the talisman. In the end she only cares about Haruka, the woman she loves.

She too goes through the trapped and is hit by multiple bullets. They do not stop her though. She loves Haruka too much and despite Uranus demands Neptune to stop, she keeps going letting herself take on a barrage of bullets until even they run out. Neptune collapses for a moment, but her will to keep her partner alive is stronger. She reaches Eudial but is not fast enough. Eudial turns on her gun and extracts Neptune's pure heart crystal.

Uranus watches in utter stupor. Memories of the smiling, understanding Michiru she saw that morning race through her head and ends in the reality of watching her partner's crystal turn into a talisman… the Aqua Mirror.

Uranus is stunned. All that Eudial said was true. She and Neptune were the holders of the talismans. In desperation she looks up at the stain glass window in the ceiling of the cathedral and asks, "O Messiah… is this the punishment we get [for our sins]?"

Usagi interrupts those thoughts by arriving on the scene. She attacks Eudial, causing her to go many levels down a construction area in the cathedral. With her gone, Usagi pleads for the talisman to return to being Michiru's heart crystal. Uranus softly tells her to stop.

Uranus sits with a bowed head and bang-shielded eyes. She softly refers to her talk with Michiru that morning saying, "You’re so unfair, Michiru… To leave for a world of your own…"

Uranus tosses Usagi's brooch back and then takes hold of Eudial's extracting gun. Usagi realizes what Uranus intends to do. The two fight over it. Uranus will complete her mission. She and Michiru knew they would have to make sacrfices. They would have to end three lives. Thus, she will sacrifice herself with no hesitation… and maybe… maybe she'd be able to follow Michiru to her own world for once.

So, despite she doesn’t believe in Usagi's powers, she entrusts her to look after the talismans and find the third. Uranus then sacrifices herself to extract the second talisman… the Space Sword.
