102 "The Pure Heart Stolen! Usagi's Biggest Crisis"

In this episode Usagi runs off to go to the place Kaolinite took Tuxedo Kamen. She runs into Haruka and Michiru and asks for a ride. Haruka pauses in reluctance since by this take on events they both will be taking Usagi to her death. She and Michiru look at Usagi solemnly and she manages out "Sure..."

The three of them talk about sacrifices. Haruka and Michiru speak about what Usagi thinks about sacrifices. To be more specific, to sacrifice in order to survive. Usagi argues, what about the people being sacrificed? If everyone worked together, Usagi felt sure a way would be found that didn't require any sacrifice. Despite that, Michiru and Haruka still believe it is the only way. Michiru comments painfully that Usagi is a "kind girl."

I think that in this scenario, the questioning was to figure out if Usagi would forgive them if they had to take away her heart crystal. Due to the shine of her crystal, the Daimon and the two soldiers felt certain it must have been a talisman. After all, Michiru did ask Haruka was alright with doing their duty when "that girl... is going to die."

Haruka responds again about their mission and needing the talismans to form the Holy Grail. Her eyes are focused on her steering wheel and they show her reluctance and turmoil. After her admittance she also shows her great frustration by hitting her car's windshield.

When Uranus inspects the heart crystal, she finds it is not a talisman. It is determined its brightness only showed that Usagi's heart was purer than most. Uranus showed utter relief in this and gently returns it to Usagi. Both she and Neptune look very relieved and Uranus softly murmured, "I'm glad..."

Uranus in particular has a hard time with their duty, I believe. Later on when the Daimon has been defeated and all the soldiers are going against Kaolinite, Sailor Moon tells her and Neptune to flee since Uranus is injured. Makoto makes a snide remark about how they should leave since they didn't find a talisman. Uranus takes it in stride though.

She plays her perceived roles. When mistaken for a boy, she plays along with such. When thought of as cruel, she doesn't argue. She lets people think as they wish. Her response had been, "That's true... Let's go, Neptune... They are willing to sacrifice themselves for us."

I think some of that is due to a faint masochistic way of psychology. She thinks she deserves such words. She considers them true and thus she will not argue. The only time she had argued against a misconception was when it had been about her not caring about Neptune in episode 98.

Anyway, Kaolinite will not let them leave and so Sailor Moon and her team attack with all their powers combined. Kaolinite is still standing and the five girls are drained. Kaolinite attacks once more to finish them off.

Seeing this, Uranus thinks of what Usagi told her earlier about those being sacrificed and combining powers so there is no need for one. Despite her injury, Uranus calls out her attack. Its speed and power manages to go through Kaolinite's attack and changes its direction where her World Shaking hits Kaolinite and is followed by the attack that was sent out by Kaolinite to begin with.

Neptune did tease her later about her sudden change of heart about helping the group, but I think Neptune was happy about it. During all that Uranus had been going through so much and could do nothing about it lest she compromise their duty. In that simple action, she wasn't so helpless. She could get rid of some of her stress and that had relieved Neptune.
