Her Hopes

Kaoru started out as a great sportswoman with many possibilities before her waiting for her to just grab hold. She never did have an actual dream or goal to strive for when younger. She did see her future clearly and happily though. She was still growing, had everything going for her and had plenty of time to decide... Right?

She saw her future with Takehiko. That was without a doubt. She knew she would love him more each passing day and she never wanted their love to ever end. As for a dream that required work through motivation, a dream that was a goal... She was uncertain. She enjoyed basketball greatly as it was her focus for a long time. She guessed her dream would have something to do with that loved pastime. She believes a dream should be worthwhile, however...

Takehiko and she had spoken about Germany. Going to Germany was Takehiko's dream because it would be there he could test his abilities and follow in his father's footsteps. She admired him for his dedication to his dream. To go to Germany with Takehiko Henmi, her significant other, became her dream. It was soon crushed, however, when a terrible disease came.

She found she likely would not be able to go to Germany with her love... and even worse, she likely would be a burden to his dream and even him! She could not stand knowing she could ruin his future and dream. Because of that, she broke it off and, in hand, she actually crushed both their dreams.

She had been forced to stay in a hospital for a long time and soon understood that being alive was a wonderful feeling. She slowly recovered her strength and started playing basketball again. The only purpose of her life became playing the game. It helped her forget the love they shared and the torment she felt over their separation. She intended to have no regrets, but in truth, she likely had them constantly.

Despite that, her love for Takehiko was still as strong as ever and would not die no matter what she did. She felt that she was doing it because of how much she loved him... a sort of protection. Her wish is to make sure the one she loves is happy, even if it takes the sacrifice of her own happiness.

When Takehiko is able to go to Germany he wants to take her with him, despite how long they had been apart. He waited for her for over a year patiently, hopefully. She continued to try to push him away and became more determined every time she thought of him or saw him. She felt she could give him nothing but her pain and fear.

She claims her dream is for Takehiko to move on and fall in love with someone who could make him happy and live with him for the rest of his life. Her dream is for him to be happy. What she wants him to do will never make him content though.

His dream included Kaoru in it. Without her, he suffers and hurts. He could shoulder her pain and was concerned about her life just as much as she did his. Only Kaoru could fulfill his dream just as Takehiko would be the only one who could fulfill her true one. For them to be content, they had to have each other in their lives. They need to be with each other more than anything because their love is genuine.

Their love still stood strong in the end despite how painful it could be.

Takehiko stayed by her and through much effort convinced her to stay with him. They would walk a path together to a future that would be theirs alone. They would share their sorrows, pains, fears, joys and dreams together.

Their dream came true soon enough. On her eighteenth year, Kaoru Orihara married Takehiko Henmi. They then went to Germany together. Takehiko continued his studies there. Kaoru was set to go as well, with schooling and doctors arranged for her. They lived a life together.
