The Manga Artist

The mangaka, the Japanese word for a comic artist, for Oniisama E... is Riyoko Ikeda. She was born December 18, 1947 in Japan, Osaka. In her youth, her dream was singing. She has had no formal art education.

In 1967, during her University years, she began publishing her work in the magazine Kashihonya. Her most well known manga is Versailles no Bara, created in 1972. Ikeda disappeared from the manga scene during the mid-eighties, but in 1998, she returned with Orpheus no Mado.

Her extreme accuracy in historic details, from the French Revolution and the Russian Revolution for example, is the inspiration for her works and she started a trend for historical manga.
