Virgo: The Virgin

Virgo is the sixth sign of the zodiac, occurring from August 24 to September 22. Virgo is an earth sign with mutable as its quality. Its symbol is The Virgin and can be "conceived symbolically as bringing diffuse energies down to earth and grounding them."


Virgo's ruling planet is Mercury. Named after the winged messenger to the Roman gods in mythology, it is the planet of the mind and communication. Usually the mind is through acquiring information while the communication is through writing. Other things associated with this planet are "attention to detail, a love of games and puzzles and an ability to recuperate quickly."


Life is a three hundred and sixty degree circle and is divided into four quadrants that represent certain times during life and and the four cycles of the seasons. Virgo falls under quadrants three and four, Sensation and Thought. Its motto is "I Serve."

"In human terms, Virgo can be likened to the efforts of the adult ego to proved structure to life and through well-ordered service to make a significant contribution to the world." Virgos can have strong morals that give them a serious dispositions and often finds only certain types of humor appealing, usually word play or wit. Virgo tends to be "highly selective to most forms of human experience."

Their inner world is usually taken up with analyzing, solving and assessing. "The future is also a primary focus for the Virgo who tends to plan and work towards goals." This is not to say they do not spontaneity or improvisation. They just usually need "an underlying structure" to assure that enjoyment.

With others Virgos can be secretive. They "are very particular both in what they conceal and what they reveal - also when and how they do it." Nonetheless "Virgos make excellent family members and co-workers, able to contribute greatly (sometimes to a fault) to the group effort."


Those born between September 19 to September 24 fall under the Virgo-Libra Cusp area. This likens it to time of forty two in regards to the human life cycle and thus has it fall during the seasons of late summer to early autumn. At this time of life, people tend to be mature adults who "steadily [make] their way int he world, but inevitably [meet and solve] important problems." At the same time, due to falling in the Virgo-Libra Cusp, this makes its concept "Beauty" as often during this time in a human's life cycle "people can become taken up with with the appreciation of beauty in a variety of forms."

In such a pursuit, some could be taken with "attractive people, the arts, precious objects or the like, or desire to make themselves, their family members living space, or lifestyle in general more aesthetically pleasing." At the same time the signs of Virgo and Libra can conflict. This brings about the sensation-thought into play making some Virgo-Libras to "lack depth in the emotional and intuitive spheres, which may lead some to regard them as superficial." Still, often Virgo-Libras are looking for a "perfect outward representation of their own inner vision, which comes from a very deep place inside them."
