The Decorative Pillows

First impressions in episode one, Nyx likely came off as a spoiled yet commendable aristocrat. Angelique meanwhile was likely viewed as a naive yet gifted schoolgirl. While it seems quite obvious that upon first view Angelique found him impressive in looks and standing, Nyx seemed to only look at her with consideration since she was "The Miracle Girl" and thus quite likely the Queen's Egg he was searching for.

The speak politely with one another as Nyx gets down to business and Angelique is quite surprised if not impressed when she learns he is a Purifier. Nyx seems amused by her response even, but remains kind and good-natured throughout. Soon enough though, he gets down to the point of things and takes on a slightly less amicable nature, despite still being polite and well-mannered.

Confident in knowing Angelique's potential, he soon takes reigns and seems to take her matter of opinion and her feelings with no consideration. Angelique quickly notes this and is of course bothered by such. She has her own desires, particularly finishing school to become a doctor.

Nyx easily offers the reason, having invaded her personal affairs by looking into her. He even seems to somewhat mock her ambitions when he says they are "commendable" and Angelique obviously does not like this.

Still being in a somewhat unsympathetic mode in consideration to her feelings, he continues on. In this, he gets at Angelique with a very good point though. If she does have such powers he insists she has, she would likely be able to save even more people by purifying rather than by being a doctor. At the end, he seems to finally catch himself and apologizes vaguely, but finishes with saying again that she is something that she has trouble believing.

Their meeting ending on that note, it looked as though while Angelique did find him aesthetically pleasing and impressive in standing and abilities, she found his words hard to believe, but persuasive if true. She seemed to get over his moments of hinted mocking and disregard though.

Nyx meanwhile seemed to only see her as a potential ally that he intended to have join his small group no matter what even though he wouldn’t force Angelique by will. While impressed and confident in her, he seemed to lack seeing her as anything else.

Later on, in order to prove to her that she is indeed a Purifier, he forces her to come with him to defeat a Thanatos. While he is a gentleman about it, Angelique has no interest in following. Finally to persuade her further when she refuses yet again, he tells her about "Noblesse oblige". He seems to know well as to how to play with Angelique's emotions and by that simple phrase and meaning, he ropes her in to following him by her own will.

After witnessing Nyx and his companion, a fellow purifier, Rayne, Angelique soon discovers that all Nyx had told her was true. She had powers that had yet to be awoken and they were that day. While Nyx had been confident in her, even he was surprised by her powers when they emerged. In the end, all his confidence paid off though. Angelique was everything he expected her to be. She was the Queen's Egg.

♫♩♫♩♫

In the second episode, when all has settled down, Nyx and Rayne talk with Angelique about what all has transpired. Angelique still is in disbelief. Rayne, a bit like how Nyx was earlier, was straight to the point and determined. There was no need to question, things just were. Interestingly, this time, Nyx approaches more gently than how he did earlier. He puts in mind that Angelique is still trying to absorb everything, but he too is losing patience in the matter due to urgency. With how Rayne acts, it seems to give Nyx's earlier behavior a bit more merit.

In any case, now that Angelique has had the events refresh her mind of all the terrible things going about her due to Thanatos, it is easier to persuade her this time. With how Nyx looks at things strategically, it would look like he played all his cards right and thus was manipulative. The question is was it for the greater good or for himself? Perhaps it was both.

After that, Angelique considers that she could save more people by joining their group and agrees to be a part of Nyx's group of Purifiers. Rayne is shocked and Nyx can only look utterly relieved and pleased.

When she finally comes to the Sunlit Mansion, Nyx easily treats her like part of the small group. He assists her when leaving the carriage that brought them there and compliments her to the point that she blushes. Despite this, it doesn't seem like he is particularly flattering her as it is being merely his nature. Angelique doesn't quite know how to take this and thinks he must be teasing her, however.

When led to her room, she finds Nyx had one prepared especially for her before her arrival. Nyx again replies it was because he knew she would come, again showing off his confidence quite a bit. This time around, he seems more content, but that could simply be because he is satisfied that everything worked to his liking. Despite this, upon parting he seems fond of her to a certain extent.

Meanwhile, Angelique, though considerate of all the things she is being given, is quite troubled still by all that has unfolded in such a short time. Her moods do lighten by Erwin, a cat that has been following her, and Nyx easily says she can keep it if she wishes to even when Erwin doesn't take to him well. In any case, he tries to make her feel at ease as much as possible.

Pretty soon, Angelique seems to look to Nyx for reassurance or at least better understanding when it comes to situations foreign to her. In turn, Nyx seems fine with supplying her information and encouraging her. One might almost say he takes the part of a friend and guardian to her.

♫♩♫♩♫

When Angelique takes on her first job in episode "Under the Table" she is scared and wishes to hide, but she soon thinks of what Nyx said last time when a Thanatos appeared about "Noblesse oblige". She seems to find courage from that and heads out to fight soon after with a look of determination on her face. It seems that by now she believes in his views and in his confidence in her.

During all of this, she and Rayne encounter J.D. Though she has only known Nyx for a short period of time, she seems to show she feels enough familiarity with him to suggest having J.D. come back with them to the Sunlit Mansion and join their group without asking. Her forwardness rang true though, for before they returned, Nyx allowed J.D. to join them quite easily. Angelique could only be delighted. When Angelique brings back Hyuga in the episode "The Silver Knight", Nyx is obliging towards that as well. By the looks of it, if she brought a million of animals or people back, he'd allow her to. Again, he seems to take on a friend and guardian role.

♫♩♫♩♫

When there are four men in the mansion by episode "Black Attack", treating Angelique seems to be the main interest on all their minds. Nyx, with his usual strategic ways, decides to battle it out playing cards. Apparently he wanted to win greatly, for he is the best at the game. In the end, when Rayne is still not satisfied with the outcome, Nyx has no problems dueling it out with weapons. While Hyuga still seems to be doing such mostly out of loyalty, Nyx and Rayne seem to be more interested in doing such to be the one to please Angelique the most. J.D. seems to understand Angelique's wants the most in such a scenario though.

Like J.D. though, Nyx gives understanding when she decides to go out on her own to shop some. He believes it isn't right to keep her tied down, guarding her all the time. That isn't to say that Rayne and Hyuga's protectiveness was a bad thing either, though.

When Angelique gets attacked by Jet and then a Thanatos when out, Hyuga and then Rayne make it to the scene first to fight the Thanatos off. Nyx is the one runs over to her to catch her when she expends too much energy. He tells her that she shouldn't fight a Thanatos alone and then steps back to let her have some room.

When Jet appears again, Nyx makes sure to get in front of Angelique before engaging the fight with the others.

As Angelique watches the others get beaten, it is found that Angelique doesn't fight out of duty or guilt. Therefore, Nyx's tactics in the beginning might have brought great influence to her decision before, but in the end, it was all Angelique's decision. From this she followed Nyx and in turn found many people who support her. By the end of the day, Nyx, as well as Rayne and Hyuga, learn that they should work together from Angelique, because they are companions.

It is around this time, his friend and guardian role might be stemming into something a bit more.

♫♩♫♩♫

As time continues on, Nyx is usually the one to make sure Angelique is out of harms way before he and the others take on Thanatos. When it comes to matters outside of Thanatos hunting, he is usually the one she looks to for guidance in matters, like when the Celestial Order summoned her. He also continues to take into consideration of what will make Angelique happy often, for when they headed to Celestizam in episode "The Journey of Determination", he made sure to stop by the Melrose Academy. While he said he had interests in seeing the headmistress there, one sees later he doesn't seem to even leave Angelique's presence or the others. Perhaps he does later, but he doesn't seem to soon.

When they continue their journey they stop by a village. When the head of it decides to prepare a feast for them in honor to their future Queen, indicating Angelique. Angelique is at loss as to what to do. As usual, she looks to Nyx for advice in how to approach the matter and he easily answers.

It is when she is asked to save a mother who was attacked by a Thanatos does Angelique's belief in herself waver. When it is determined by the others that Angelique is having problems, Nyx handles the situation so Angelique can step aside from it for a while. Later when they are to turn in from the night he is also quite aware of her feelings of guilt and thus unworthiness to take the town's hospitality and thus guides the situation again to suit her better.

While Angelique is trying to recuperate, Nyx and the others listen to her when she decides to talk. Nyx seems to notice the great differences between him and her that night.

Perhaps he realizes that though her situation is a bit like his at times like when she spoke of her parents dying. They both had lost their parents and he notes how she must have been lonely after that and also had to live alone. He had that happen to him.

Perhaps he also notices how she is able to handle things quite differently from him instead when she answers the negative. She knew she had people who supported her and thus she could go on. He in turn did not. There might even be the case that he can see through some of her smiles and knows there is more that must be addressed for even though she seemed to be in better moods to the others, he wound up following her to a field late into the night when she could not sleep.

There they talk. He continues to listen to her doubts and in turn does his best to give her guidance yet again. He proves yet again that he does understand her inner workings quite a bit because Angelique finds he used his strategic and psychological ways to get her to find the true answers she sought within herself on her own. His solemn moods seem to lighten when she voices her beliefs and he quite easily accepts them.

Once the case is settled, she sneezes from the chill in the air and he offers her his jacket, being the gentleman he is.

Nyx continues to watch her as she overcomes obstacles she must face on her journey to becoming queen and always can only seem impressed and content. At times his looks seem warm in a different way, with hints of considerable affection even. While still in the role of friend and guardian, their closeness seems to grow more still.

♫♩♫♩♫

In episode "Visiting the Holy Capital", Angelique meets the Head of the Order in Celestizam. When she is heading back for home, he tries to make her stay because she is the Queen's Egg and thus would need protecting. Nyx steps up immediately and shows his objections to this proposal. Rayne and J.D. soon follow. Reassured by their responses to this, she decides to stay with them and work on purifying Thanatos as usual. Angelique sees them all as her treasured companions. How Nyx sees her is not stated so easily, but he seems to find her lovely and a companion as well at the very least.

♫♩♫♩♫

An interesting note is that when Nyx prepares tea, Angelique usually offers to assist, like in episode "Seed of Happiness". They also seem to have a thing in common in preparing it for everyone often.

♫♩♫♩♫

In episode "Jinx", the Orb Hunters go to Pharia. When the group goes to check out the Artifact Foundation's creation to fight Thanatos, Nyx disappears for a while. Angelique is the one who finds him. To keep her from worrying and so she cannot see him in one of his worse states, he says he is merely dizzy and plans to rest at a café. Angelique of course wishes to accompany him. He can only refuse kindly.

Later Nyx was weakened greatly when trying to save a boy from drowning and wound up passing out at the end. While unconscious and having to face one of his fears in his mind, a light appeared that helped him wake up. Upon gaining consciousness, he finds Angelique holding his hand to her cheek. She had looked after him the whole time he was out. He replies that her light must have reached his heart and in his case, that was more than metaphoric. Angelique can only blush in humbleness.

Despite the touching moment, Angelique still seems to only worry over him as a dear friend. With Nyx, it is uncertain, but he could be seeing her as a bit more important as a friend. His seeing her as his salvation likely has changed completely from just a means to an end to the case of making him actually happy and want to be near her just because she is Angelique as well.

♫♩♫♩♫

In episode "Time's Rondo", Angelique finds Nyx tending to a flowerbed, that she never would have known was a flower bed. Realizing that Nyx seems to lack a green thumb, she offers to help him. She tries to cheer him up, certain the "flowers will respond to [his] feelings someday." Nyx replies that as long as she is helping him the task will not seem like a chore because of her smile.

With her he seems to use flowers as metaphors a lot. He goes on to tell her how he admires them and when it describes them as holy and divine, it seems he possibly likens Angelique to one. Thus he might see her as admirable and someone he wishes he could be like.

After their time together in the gardens Angelique makes Nyx tea in hopes to cheer him up, for she noticed he didn't look well earlier. On her way in, Nyx suddenly stops playing his piano with a bang and she finds him breathing hard. She quickly acts as though nothing is wrong and he follows suit.

She continues to try to lighten moods when the topic of a ball invitation comes up. Thinking that would change his spirits she asks to go. While not inclined, he notes her interest and agrees in terms that flatter her immensely as usual. In this, one sees just how much they try to please each other. Both could simply be doing it out of concerns of a friend or more. It cannot be foretold. Angelique does seem quite flattered by how he accepts, though.

Later on that evening they arrive to the ball. Nyx is the obvious gentleman to her, helping her out of the carriage and noting her comfort. When Angelique finds herself out of place, Nyx notices her troubled look and soon reassures her. He tells her that to him, she "sparkles more than anyone else." She blushes by his flattery and is relaxed once more. In the end he takes care to let her feel at ease by making her blend in better. She in turn is pleased.

Upon entering, people soon surround Nyx since he is wealthy and famous. For a moment Angelique experiences another moment of distance when she realizes how many acquaintances he has, but unlike those acquaintances she notices him having troubles and saves him from dealing with them anymore. He in turn saves her when his female admirers become hostile. In doing this he claims she is his fiancée. Angelique is first surprised and then seems to melt a bit.

Still quite surprised and possibly troubled from his story, they continue off alone. Nyx apologizes for the lie, but explains soon enough that he wouldn't mind if it wasn't just a "made-up fantasy" of his. As far as he is concerned, if she was his fiancée, he'd have no greater happiness. In the end, her worries are due to being the cause of him being there despite she knew he wasn't feeling well nor was interested in such gatherings. He counters this by telling he shouldn't have left her alone. Again, they definitely worry and seem to care for each other a lot.

In order not to dwell on apologies, Nyx soon says they should just enjoy the party. After meeting an old gentleman, August, they take to dancing. Sadly, Angelique can only continue to worry for Nyx, for his eyes are distant despite he looks like his is enjoying himself.

A Thanatos soon appears, however, and they begin to fight it together. When the gentleman from earlier is having troubles health-wise though, Nyx is soon distracted. With his back open, he and the others are vulnerable as the Thanatos goes after him. While Angelique knows she cannot fight it alone, she grabs a candle holder to try to distract it from Nyx. Remembering where he is, he soon returns to fighting when it goes after Angelique. He kills it quickly.

Now one might say that Angelique isn't the most important person to him, because soon after he runs back to check on August, but, if one has read about his past in The Armoire, they would know that August is his oldest friend in more than one way. With that, he was not even supposed to be at the ball as it was due to health complications and then a Thanatos appeared. Angelique, while maybe bruised a little, is young, healthy and strong. It makes sense that Nyx would go to help the one who could possibly die after all of that. Angelique understands all of this, it seems.

When it is certain August is okay, Nyx doesn't forget Angelique completely, for once that is established he asks of her well being. She looks fine and is simply happy she can help. Nyx in turn watches her peacefully then and thinks, "Angelique, haven‘t you noticed yet? How bright your sparkle is to me?"

Once they have returned home, Nyx returns Angelique's hair decoration, which fell off during the battle. While placing it on her, he whispers to her how he should be the one thanking her. When he leaves the others just consider him strange at most. Angelique instead is worried about how he was different that night.

Alone, Nyx goes to the flowerbeds he was at earlier that day. It seems he does see Angelique as a flower - holy and divine. He ends the thought with, "But I…"

From this, one can assume that Nyx's feelings for her have grown, possibly into a love that is beyond friendship. Where Angelique's feeling lie are still quite unknown, however. She is very observant about him though and definitely cares.

In "Dark Clouds" the Melrose Women's Academy is attacked by countless of Thanatos. Angelique, Nyx and J.D. head there together. Upon briefly meeting up with Rayne and Hyuga, the three head off to help the students. Their formation is J.D. taking up the front and Nyx guarding their backs. Even when they stop upon finding the Headmistress, Nyx continues to stand guard behind Angelique. After that, J.D. takes the headmistress and a student to safety. Angelique and Nyx look for Hannah and Sally.

As they run through the empty corridors Nyx continues to let Angelique run ahead of him in case anything comes at them from behind. When a Thanatos appears before them though, he is quick and soon is in front of her ready to protect her. He does urge her to go on while he handles the Thanatos though since he knows Hannah and Sally are important. In warning, however, he tells Angelique to call him should any Thanatos appear.

When finding Hannah and Sally, as well as Bernard, facing a Thanatos, she minds Nyx's words, but soon realizes it would be too late. Thus she handles the situation herself with a bit of help from an Artifact Foundation member operating a Jinx. Nothing much can be concluded from this episode other than that Angelique seems to treat all the men who have entered her life equally and that Nyx does well to shield Angelique when he can.

♫♩♫♩♫

In "The Captured Angelique", Angelique is kidnapped by Jet. Nyx was unable to do anything, but then again, Hyuga was unable to as well. At best Rayne could shoot a few bullets. J.D. took on the truck Jet was using to make a get away. Despite this scenario would suggest J.D. feels for her the most, if the other three had the same capabilities and were at the right locations, they would certainly have tried the same.

The next evening the group head out to the Artifact Foundation's headquarters once they determined what happened. Rayne seems to be taking the lead in the group, but that only makes sense since he knows the place best. While discussing, Nyx seems cool and confident when somewhat mocking Erenfried and comparing their upcoming battle Erenfried is conducting as "the perfect stage for saving the princess from the villain". Talk soon turns to the Sunlit Mansion and the good times the five of them have there. Hyuga often swears to protect Angelique even if it brings his death, taking note of that Nyx replies that if one of them die those days they are reminiscing on would never return.

Still, all their feelings seem to be united. They realize that all of them must survive the ordeal before them for things to be ideal again. They all want to be together with Angelique in the Sunlit Mansion when all of this is over. The times the five of them spent together there became natural and something that none of them want to lose.

The four break into The Foundation's HQ and end up having to fight many Jinx weapons set up by Erenfried, the one who had Angelique captured. Nyx started calling Angelique their princess, thus a possible acknowledgement that she is important to all of them equally. As the battle ensues, each of them think protective thoughts and vows to Angelique. She in turn seems to sense their feelings and presence. Nyx's line is, "Even if it costs me my life..."

As her friends are getting beaten up once Jet begins to fight, Angelique can tell. Again, she seems to see them equally. They are the people she cares about. She releases her power to help heal and strengthen them. As usual, Nyx's thoughts are vague, "You truly are..." Amazing? Wonderful? Devine? Either way, he is impressed, grateful and full of admiration as usual it seems.

The fight is finally put at an end by Yorgo, the Director of The Foundation, when he returns to find Erenfried did multiple things against orders. They are led to Angelique then. Upon waking, she is caught by Rayne and Hyuga when she finds she is quite weak. Nyx and J.D. stay put. When it comes to those two, I believe they simply understand that crowding her is unnecessary and they are giving her room.

♫♩♫♩♫

Later, the night being closer to dawn now, Rayne and Angelique speak about what they learned from the Foundation in regards to the potential of her powers. While only a hypothesis, Angelique's powers could be used to wipe out all the Thanatos present on Arcadia at the time. The thing is, it takes a great amount of time and that in turn would put a great strain upon her body to the point of death.

Rayne joins up with the other three men after this in episode "Return, and Then..." He informs them what has happened and none of them like it. Hyuga loses cool even. Their feelings all seem to be equal in the matter. When Hyuga voices his view of Angelique and how he will protect her then, Nyx smiles seeming to show agreement in his words... that Angelique is irreplaceable.

The day comes where they must fight off countless Thanatos in order to protect Angelique as she attracts and purifies them with her light. During that time they can all feel their unity. Eventually they come to their last obstacle, a Thanatos made up of multiples combined. Angelique seems to power up that day and a ghostly form of her appears in the sky as she purifies it. As the other four watch on, Nyx collapses upon witnessing this. Again he can only say in awe, possibly hope, and full of emotion, "You are..."

How he feels about her? She is apparently irreplaceable, divine, strong and beautiful to him so far. They are definitely friends and he is one of the most important people in her life and she is definitely in his. There have been hints of his attraction by his words and expressions alone, but how deep is that attraction really? Even if it is deep, does it hold enough value as far as Angelique is concerned? It is hard to tell.

Once the day is over the five of them return home to the Sunlit Mansion. Despite their busy day, Nyx prepared a meal for all of them making use of his winnings in cards. Apparently he still wishes to be the one to ultimately feed Angelique. He also seems to still have an agenda when it comes to Angelique too. At dinner despite their talk of hope for a peaceful future for a while, he soon reminds them that Thanatos can appear at any time and they have not been stopped yet because the source of them has not been dealt with.

Again this all goes back to information addressed in The Armoire. Knowing that, the sincerity of his love for her in a romantic sense is still questionable, but not as much as before.

Alas at the end of the episode, Erebos appears in the corporeal form of Nyx. He burns away the Sunlit Mansion and many Thanatos appear as it crumbles. Angelique's feelings for Nyx soon are overcome with confusion and turmoil as the place she finally found to be her home was destroyed about her. With Rayne, J.D. and Hyuga, she escapes and Nyx is known as the possible enemy. What she feels for him after that is definitely negative.
