New Mobile Suit Report Gundam Wing Vol. 7 LD

The following is an excerpt from a booklet included in the New Mobile Suit Report Gundam Wing Vol.7 Laserdisc BEAL-848 which came out in 1996 by Bandai Visual. The booklet is a collection divided into three sections of character sketches. Trowa's sketches appears in the second collection comprised of Duo Maxwell, himself, Quatre, Wu Fei, Treize Khushrenada, Lady Une, Sally Po, Catherine Bloom, Lucrezia Noin and "Old Men". Despite it not being printed down, I would assume the commentary is by Shugo Murase as he is known to be Gundam Wing's character designer.

This setting of three people gathered together was chosen for the concept art. In any case, since the concept art had to be finalized, it was structured in such a way that the new characters on the right were cleaned up. Incidentally, the reason why Wu Fei is not included is because his design was uncertain due to changes in the setting, so only three people were included.

I had assumed that there must have been intense battles between the director and the character designer during the creating process of each character, but
"No, most of them were approved in one go," they said...
However, this was only possible because of the deep trust between the director and the designer!

The duo above still feels a little immature compared to the final draft, but this Trowa is almost identical to the final draft.
Incidentally, the unique hairstyle apparently originated from questions about Mitsuru Hanagata's hairstyle (really!).
The angle of this jacket was actually chosen to answer those questions! (???)

Notes: Hanagata Mitsuru (花形 満) is a character from "Star of the Giants" (巨人の星) by Ikki Kajiwara (梶原一騎).
